3. Machinery Handling And Operation Safety

Picture
Topic 3 - MACHINERY HANDLING & OPERATION SAFETY

INTRODUCTION

Machine safety is critical for worker safety, because machines have many ways to injure workers: Many machines have moving parts, sharp edges, and hot surfaces with the potential to cause severe workplace injuries such as crushed fingers. Safeguards are essential for protecting workers from these preventable injuries. Any machine part, function, or process that might cause injury must be safeguarded. When the operation of a machine may result in a contact injury to the operator or others in the vicinity, the hazards must be eliminated or controlled.

All rotating machineries should have safety features such as machine guarding and engineering controls such as limit switches and sensors. These features are installed as to protect the worker from any hazard. Employees working with machines in the factory, need to be trained on safe operation and handling of these machines. They also need to know the potential hazard and how to work safely.
